Concrete absorbs and holds water and most siding and trim materials including fiber cement aren t rated for contact with concrete.

I d like the patio to get as close as possible to the house but am realizing that it may not be good to put the pavers right up against the siding.
I would advise locating a vinyl siding company and getting them to break some scraps that they ve laying around about an inch much higher than the concrete will be poured and as far out from the house as the scraps will go.

Other times an l flashing over the surface of the concrete and work but keep in mind this can also trap moisture behind the the concrete.

If you must do it try to install some serious flashing between the wood and concrete such as ice and water barrier protected by aluminum that goes well below any wood and up under the siding.

For this specific situation i would rather see the concrete poured against the cement siding which goes all the way down to the bottom.
Concrete and masonry foundation walls shall extend above the finished grade adjacent to the foundation at all points a minimum of 4 inches 102 mm.
If it were flashed with 1 2 inch gap like shown in the text book water could run below the flashing and on to raw wood.

The siding should be 4 8 inches above the surface of the concrete.
Typically when i pour concrete against a house foundation never pour concrete against any siding imho it invites trouble later i have an expansion joint set to the house.

This does not answer how close siding should be to the grade but foundation above grade is more important.
The best thing to do and it s the code in va is to put aluminum coil in between the wood and the concrete.
