What kind of paint for a soft vinyl toy.
Can you use regular acrylic paint on vinyl toys.
Choose the right paint.
But if you use acrylics that can be done with a bit of water and actually has to be done with.
Be sure your vinyl is clean before applying paint by washing it with soap and water and rinsing well.
I paint nearly every mod podge project before the podge goes on and i use acrylic paint on projects that i don t decoupage as well.
For plastic and wooden toys your best bet is either hobby based acrylic paint or lacquer paint.
You can also get very similar effects when using wall paint in your acrylic pours so in that respect it doesn t really make any difference.
Warning do not paint over your vinyl figures unless you have abraded and primed them first or the figures will eventually begin to shed paint.
Don t use enamel unless you use a base coat of acrylic first.
Paint will not stick to a dirty surface.
You can also use a primer between the vinyl and the paint.
If your vinyl surface is clean the paint or primer will adhere to the vinyl rather than the dirt and you will have a longer lasting finish.
If you wish to coat your vinyl figures in one solid color you should spray on a coat of acrylic paint in the same manner as you applied the primer.
Household paint tends to be much cheaper than quality acrylic paint and you may have some hanging around the house that is going to waste so it can be a very economical thing to be able to use.
Oil paint can cause the vinyl in plastic toys to deteriorate over time and is generally better suited to metal components while enamel is rarely a good choice because it tends to not fully dry when used on plastic resulting in the paint being sticky to the touch.
